Altonah, a scattered community located in Duchesne County's Upper Country, was first surveyed in 1906. Originally called Alexander, It received its current name, for its high elevation, in 1912.

Community Life
Altonah is north of Altamont, east of Mountain Home and northwest of Bluebell. The Lake Fork River flows west of Altonah. Its northern edge borders Ute tribal grazing lands. Altonah also has direct unpaved access to the Yellowstone area of Ashley National Forest via the Yellowstone Road, which connects to the Moon Lake Road as well.
Businesses & Services
Hidden Springs Ranch is a lodge in Altonah available for large reunions and retreats. The lodge features a cabin, pond, pool and other recreation facilities.
Churches
Altonah Latter-day Saints are split between attending the Lake Fork Ward, with its chapel in Boneta, and the Altamont First Ward, with its chapel in the stake center. Both wards are located within the Altamont Stake.
Schools
K-12 students from Altonah attend elementary and high school in Altamont. The schools are part of the Duchesne County School District.
