Altamont, Utah
Founded as a centralized location for a new high school, the town's name was coined in 1936 by blending those of nearby Altonah and Mount Emmons.

Altamont, in Duchesne County, is the hub of the Upper Country, which includes Altonah, Boneta, Bluebell, Mount Emmons, Mountain Home, Talmage, and Upalco. It sits on Utah State Route 87, which connects to Highway 40 at the Ioka turnoff west of Roosevelt at one end and to Duchesne at the other.
