Bluebell, Utah

Bluebell is a small community of 278 in Duchesne County, located near Altamont. The Gales were the first family to settle the town in 1907. Others joined in 1908. School began in a granary in 1909, and a church house opened in 1910. The town was named for the wildflowers growing in the area.

Community Life

The Bluebell Road runs through town, connecting Altamont, approximately 3½ miles to the west, and Hancock Cove and the Roosevelt area to the east. It’s intersected by County Road 137, which connects to Big Sand Wash Reservoir, four miles south, and Upalco just beyond that. Altonah lies to Bluebell's northwest.

Businesses & Services

The Bluebell Store & Grille was established as a general store in 1915. Today, it hosts a convenience store, post office and grill that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Churches

The Bluebell Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holds meetings at the stake center in Altamont.

Schools

Bluebell’s young people attend elementary and high school in Altamont, as part of the Duchesne County School District.

Parks & Recreation

The Bluebell Community Park has a pavilion, playground, sports field, volleyball pit, basketball court and walking track. The Bluebell Cemetery lies just west of town.

Events

Bluebell’s Independence Day celebration includes a breakfast and flag ceremony at the park. The Bluebell Corn Maze also draws visitors to the town each fall.
